Factions

Every Nimian fights for a Citadel. The factions do not differ by geography alone: each is an answer to what the Sporefall was, and what people must become because of it.

What a faction is to you

  • Your home. The Citadel is your safe ground: vendors, teachers, missions, the bank.
  • Your side. Territory, war and the hunt for the Knowledge Artefact are fought between factions.
  • Your colour. On the minimap every player appears in their faction's colour, friend or enemy alike. A faction is always shown by its crest as well.
  • A choice for one life. You choose at creation and choose again at each rebirth.

A faction is not a truce. There is no friendly-fire switch in Nimis: your techniques hurt whoever they hit.

The Sovereign Reach

"We will finish what the Empire could not."

To the Reach, the Sporefall was a failure of engineering, not of morals. The Emperor was reckless; his ambition was right. They descend from the imperial engineers, officers and administrators who fled to the western Monolith, and they kept the old knowledge: metallurgy, extraction, the mathematics of Nimis flow.

Their towns are forges and furnaces and regulated conduits running through stone streets. They are the wealthiest faction and the best equipped, and their Wardens fight in disciplined formations with weapon-channelled techniques.

Others see them as the Empire reborn, sleepwalking toward a second Sporefall.

The Echobound Covenant

"The world did not break. It was broken. Never again."

To the Covenant, the Sporefall was a punishment that people earned, and survival is a debt to repay. They are the direct continuation of the Order of the First Echo, ruled from the northern Monolith by a council of monks who blind themselves on ascension, as their founder was blind.

Their towns are austere terraces of stone gardens and meditation halls. They field the fewest Wardens and the finest: their arts prize purity of technique and devastating precision.

Others see them as sanctimonious zealots who would let humanity wither for a dead monk's guilt.
