Codex / Your character
Learning and mastery
There are no levels. A fighter grows in two ways: by learning new techniques, and by mastering the ones they have.
Learning a technique
- Access comes first. Your element, profession and bloodline decide which techniques you can learn at all.
- Techniques form trees. Some need another one learned first. The tree shows what you have, what you can start, and what is still locked and why.
- You start at a teacher. Elemental techniques begin at that element's teacher. Bloodline techniques begin from your own character screen.
- You learn anywhere. Once started, progress builds wherever you are. It rises slowly on its own and jumps when you defeat creatures or players, finish missions, or take part in events.
- One at a time. Switching to a different technique throws away the progress on the one you were learning.
Legendary weapon techniques are the exception: you have them while the weapon is in your hands.
Mastering it
Every technique and passive has a mastery level, and each level makes it better: more damage, a shorter cooldown, or a stronger effect.
| Kind | How mastery grows |
|---|---|
| Techniques you cast | By using them in a fight. |
| Techniques you keep on | By the time they spend active. |
| Physical passives | At training objects out in the world, such as striking logs and waterfalls. |
Mastery has the same ceiling for everyone.
Points
Skill Points and Elemental Points come with age and from events. They pay for starting techniques and for passives.
Each life begins again
Everything learned and mastered belongs to one life. A reborn character learns from the start, usually along a different path.
