Codex / The world
Zones
The world is one continuous land you can walk across. What changes from place to place is what a fight costs you.
The kinds of ground
| Zone | Combat | If you lose |
|---|---|---|
| Your Citadel | None. Nobody can be hurt. | Nothing to lose. |
| The Training Academy | Full combat | Nothing lasting. This is the only place where that is true. Open to Initiates under 25. |
| The wilds | Full PvP, everywhere | Wounds, most of your carried gold, standing, a mark on your record, your bounty. |
| The Challenge Arena | One-on-one duels | The same as the wilds. |
| Graduation Exam arenas | Full PvP during an exam | Wounds and gold, but no standing. |
| Event arenas | Team events | Nothing. |
Moving between them
- The wilds are one land with no loading between regions.
- Citadels, the Academy and the arenas are entered through portals.
- Portals close while you are in combat. Thirty seconds after a player last hurt you, they open again.
What you can see
- The minimap shows what is close: teachers and vendors, mission objectives, and nearby players as dots in their faction's colour.
- The world map shows the land and your missions, but not other players, with a few exceptions.
| You appear on the world map when | To whom |
|---|---|
| You are near a Citadel whose Radar is standing | That Citadel's faction |
| Someone holds a bounty mission on you | That hunter |
| You are inside a Tension War | Everyone taking part |
| You carry the Knowledge Artefact | Everyone |
Each faction's Radar stands outside its walls and can be destroyed. A faction with no Radar is blind to who is at its gates until it is rebuilt.
Hiding
Bushes hide you. Fire burns them, and you with them.
