What the game is

Nimis: Legacies Beyond is a free open-world PvP RPG with no levels. What separates two fighters is what they have learned and how well they play.

The short version

  • You make a fighter, sixteen years old, and choose a faction and a Bloodline Legacy.
  • You learn techniques from teachers and get better at them by using them. There is no experience bar to fill before the game starts.
  • You fight other players in an open world, alone or with your faction.
  • Your fighter ages. Each year changes what they are good at. Eventually they die of old age and you begin a new life, a little better equipped than the last.

How a fighter is built

Almost every choice is made for one life and made again in the next.

  • Faction: the Citadel you fight for.
  • Bloodline Legacy: a family line with its own passives and techniques.
  • Element: Fire, Earth, Wind, Water or Lightning. Commit to one and it is stronger, with techniques nobody else gets. Split two and you unlock their fusion.
  • Way: fight bare-handed, weave illusions with Mindweaving, or take up steel.
  • Profession: Steelsworn, Archer, Medic, Weaponist, Trickster or Sensory, chosen from a teacher in your Citadel and fixed for that life.
  • Traits: one at eighteen, another at twenty-one.

Where you are safe, and where you are not

PlaceWhat happens there
Your CitadelNo combat at all. Rest, shop, take missions, trade.
The Training AcademyFull combat with no lasting consequences. Open to Initiates under the age of 25.
The wildsOpen PvP everywhere. Losing a fight here costs you.
The Challenge ArenaOne-on-one duels with the same consequences as the wilds.

What losing costs

Being knocked out in the wilds is not the end: you can struggle back to your feet. If you do not, the defeat counts, and it brings wounds, the loss of gold you were carrying, a mark on your record, lost standing, and the end of any bounty streak you had built.

Two rules stop people escaping a fight they started:

  • The combat timer. Taking damage from a player starts a 30-second timer. While it runs, every portal is closed to you.
  • Logging out in combat counts as a defeat. The player who hit you last gets the credit.

What you can lose and what you keep

A life ends, and almost everything on that character ends with it. What belongs to your account stays: the Account Bank, account-bound items, and anything bought. See Aging and rebirth.

What it costs

Nothing. The game is free, and nothing sold raises what a character can become. See Fair play.
